Create a roadmap for wider adoption across Greece and Mediterranean

As one of the first large-scale SSE rollouts in Greece, DECOMPRES sets a new standard for sustainable port development. Its goal is not only to build and design infrastructure but also to create a roadmap for wider adoption across Greece and Mediterranean.

For the first time in Greece, ports of different typologies and geographies — island (Corfu), mainland (Lavrio, Kavala), and high-volume passenger (Rafina) — join forces under a single decarbonisation strategy. The project, coordinated by Lavrio Port Authority and supported by public and private stakeholders (including HEDNO, PROTASIS, HYDRUS, WMG, NTUA, GROWTHFUND), establishes a model of national collaboration for sustainable infrastructure development.

The project will produce a flexible toolkit to support other ports in making informed investment decisions and adopting SSE technologies. It will strengthen collaboration between public authorities, port operators, and technology providers, offering a common framework for sharing knowledge and overcoming technical and regulatory barriers.

DECOMPRES promotes solutions that can be replicated across the Eastern Mediterranean and positions Greek ports as leaders in maritime decarbonization, helping shape a cleaner and smarter future for European shipping.
